What your results mean

Level Check is a 100-question grammar and vocabulary review. Its report counts correct answers and shows results by topic. You see an explanation after each answer, so this is also a learning activity. Results from different attempts are not directly comparable.

It does not assess speaking, listening, extended writing, or overall English proficiency. It does not assign a measured Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) level, predict TOEFL, IELTS, or TOEIC scores, or provide a certificate. Earlier numerical confidence and examination predictions were removed in September 2026 because we did not have evidence to support them.

How questions are selected

The check starts with easier questions. A pacing rule uses all previous responses to guide the difficulty of later questions while keeping a variety of grammar and vocabulary topics. Incorrect answers cannot raise that difficulty cue. The cue is used only to choose questions; it is not a proficiency score.

How practice suggestions work

A1–C2 label approximate practice bands assigned to the content. After at least ten answers, we suggest the highest band in which you have answered at least five questions with at least 75% correct. If no band meets that rule, we suggest trying A1. This is a simple starting rule, not a validated placement threshold. Change bands whenever the material feels too easy or too difficult.

Topic suggestions show the number correct out of the number attempted. Fewer than three answers are labeled a small sample. A consistent area requires at least three attempts and 75% correct within this activity; that is not evidence of lasting mastery. Topic links open a focused quiz, which may contain fewer than 25 questions.

Questions and editorial review

The bank contains 4,200 available quiz items: 20 for each of 35 topics at each of six practice bands. Both tools use the same individually written questions and choice-specific explanations. Automated checks require unique question-and-choice combinations, and questions do not repeat within an attempt.

All 4,200 items received an individual AI-assisted editorial review covering the sentence, answer, distractors, feedback, learning value, and practice-band assignment. Separate checks examine repetition, answer-position balance, and delivery in the quizzes. Neither these checks nor the assisted review guarantee that every item is free of error. The bank has not been independently validated with learners or an assessment specialist, and its bands are not empirically calibrated proficiency ratings.

Privacy and saved data

No English Road login is required. Questions are checked in your browser. Level Check and Practice each store one attempt in this browser when browser storage is available. Stored data includes the questions selected, answer choices, your responses, and progress; a completed Level Check also includes its completion time. The save status tells you whether the latest write succeeded.

This data is not automatically uploaded as a quiz report. Anyone using the same browser profile may be able to resume it. Starting another attempt replaces the saved attempt for that tool. If a question-bank update makes an old attempt incompatible, the old saved attempt is cleared from browser storage and a fresh attempt starts.

Cloudflare Web Analytics is used on the public pages to understand traffic. Hosting and analytics services receive ordinary page requests. English Road does not send your selected quiz answers or report text as custom analytics events. About Cloudflare Web Analytics.

The optional AI study prompt is available after a practice quiz. It contains questions from your completed quiz, your selected answers, and the site’s explanations. Copying it places text on your clipboard. Nothing is sent to an AI service automatically; the service’s own terms and privacy practices apply if you paste it there.
